Oil Mounting on an Epson 2450

Is it possible to oil-mount transparencies and negatives on an Epson 2450? Can the film be placed directly on the glass, or is a holder required?

There is a depth of focus with the Perfection 2450, so it should be no problem to oil-mount film on the scanner!

I do this with my 1640 with great results, however, you ought to be careful that the scanner fluid (and dust, dirt, etc.) doesn't enter the scanner between the glass and the top cover. I have had to have mine cleaned because of dirt and dried scanner fluid on the white calibration strip inside the scanner. (streaked scanns) I sealed the edges of the glass with "scanner tape" I bought from a prepress supply house that is more resistant to the fluid that regular "Scotch" tape.

By the way, I am using KAMI SMF 2001 as a fluid and mylar sheets to make a sandwich of glass, fluid, film, fluid and mylar. I use "Pec" wipes to push out air bubbles and clean around the edges of the mylar. The Kami fluid evaporates, so cleanup isn't much of a problem.

Excuse me if I'm asking the obvious but, what advantages does oil mounting provide?

I have just replaced my old scanner with a 2450 and although the film holders could be much better, I hadn't thought of mounting the film directly in contact with the glass. Do you have to re-wash the negative or stabilize in case of color?
