Newbie question, 4990, SF SE and glitches

Postby Mike Lyons » Sun Oct 30, 2005 8:57 am

Hi to all. I have just got my 4990, and am having problems with high res scans. I am running Windows XP with 512 mb of RAM, and have 103gb of file space. On many, but not all, scan attempts from negs ( 35mm strips, 6x9, 6x12 or 4x5 ) I encounter problems such as the screen locking up, the program quitting when the scan icon is hit ( and the screen returns to the desk top ), and an error report is shown for both Microsoft and Dr. Watson Post Mortem Debugger, regarding a non-responsive program.
I have tried re-installing the software ( current version 6.4.2r9 ) but still frequently get the same problems. I do not seem to have the same problems using the Epson Scan program. I have also noticed that when using Scan Pilot, not all the functions of the Gradation Dialog tool are not opened, although if I open this from the bar above the Frame/General/Densitometer box all parts of the tool are fuctional.
O.K. so what am I doing wrong, or have I got a software problem?
Mike
