IT8 scanner profiles & Auto settings

To profile with IT8 target do you turn off the Auto (Highlight/Shadow)
in options/defaults/auto.If you use the 4 sliders under Frame/Image type/
"user defined" will that in effect cancel out the same Auto settings for highlight/shadow auto. If you dont turn them off for profilinig how can you anyway? Allso how can i get a hard copy of SF color mang. in documents /PDF.
