inverted color 636 Expression

I am getting inverted colors when I try to scan transparencies. It happens randomly. Sometimes all the images get inverted sometimes half, sometimes no problem. This is a very annoying problem indeed. My Epson 636 Expression scanner has worked well for all the years I have had it but now it is acting up. Is it hardware or software? I think software. What is it conflicting with? I am using standard issue photoshop 5.02 without thrid party plugins. Anyone with suggestions please email me. I am using a Mac 7500/100, OS 9 with g3 proccessor aand 512 megs ram. Thank you for your attention.

Epson Expression 636 and inverted transparencies with SilverFast

Have you tried with the latest SilverFast? You can also delete both Prefs files: SilverFast and Photoshop. You should anyhow upgrade to at least Photoshop 5.5 or 6.
