In LSI creating transparency profile.

Postby Big Fish » Wed Nov 19, 2008 11:01 pm

Greetings....

Using LSI. in the Epson 750 Pro scanner you can calibrate for reflective profiles but the calibrate button does not allow the same for transpancies yet you do need reflective profiles and transparency profiles. How can you calibrate for transparencies to create a profile?

Many appreciations.

Dear Big Fish,

Could you please be more specific, when you are talking about the calibration button do you actually mean the IT8 calibration button?

If that is the case, you should be able to IT8 calibrate for transparencies.

Thanks for your further explanations

Cheers

Hi Alejandro..

Yes. I mean the IT8 calibration button. Because I didn't have a SF IT8 card I used the Monaco reflective IT8 card that came with the scanner. It seemed to work well for the reflective calibration but not with the Monaco transparent IT8 card. When I click the IT8 calibration button a message says it allows for reflective calibration only.

Many appreciations.

Hi Aljeandro...

I did reply earlier put it wasn't posted for some reason. Yes, I used the SF IT8 calibration button however, I used the Monaco reflective IT8 card and it seemed to work as it said calibration was successful. I used the the Monaco transparency IT8 card ( because you need individual profiles)but a message said SF IT8 calibration button only worked for reflective IT8 cards. I hope this is more clear. The SFI software came with the Epson 750 Pro scanner but not IT8 target card???

Many thanks.

Best....cheers!

If you wish to make your calibration for transparecies, you must first switch in the "general" tab to transparency mode, you will then be able to IT8 calibrate your scanner with the transparency target.
Yeah SF came bundled with your Epson Perfection V750 Pro without our IT8 targets, that was a decision Epson made. They decided to bundle the scanner with the software and targets from Monaco.

Thanks again Alejandro.

I will re-try with your suggestions but I already did that. May I missed something. I will need to get SF IT* transparency card since I will doing film work. A new question is, can you calibrate the Epson scanner 750 using SF Ai 6. by using the Xrite Colormunki?

Again, many appreciations.

Dear Big Fish,

To be able to IT8 calibrate your scanners (in transparency mode) you will need an IT8 transparent target. It does not necessarily has to be a SF IT8 target, the important thing is that the transparent target you have is IT8 starndard compliant and the reference files for the calibration as well, as is the case with our targets (you might find an IT8 calibration target which is standard compliant but its reference files might not be standard, here is where you must be careful).

About the Colormunki, I am not pretty much aware how does it do the calibrating of the scanner, I do not believe it is possible to call the Colormunki from within SilverFast. However you can make your calibration using the Colormunki and then call the desired color profile from within SilverFast (Options dialog, "CMS" tab).

Since (I believe) color management and IT8 calibration is very important for your, you should download the chapter on Color management, you can find it as a PDF file here:

http://www.silverfast.com/download/docu ... -06-21.pdf

And a color management guide here:

http://www.silverfast.com/download/docu ... -01-24.pdf

I hope this helps clarify a bit your doubts.

Have a nice day.
