How to eliminate moire scanning reflective CDs?

I'm trying to scan a CD (in order to duplicate it for a friend, printing my own label), which seems to have been simply printed right on a highly reflective CD surface (i.e. lightscribe, I'm guessing).

Unfortunately, the scanned result is terrible. Totally rainbow and moire artifacts. See attached.

What can I do, if anything, to prevent this result of scanning a reflective surface?

It is hard to say why these effects are happening.
One way of reducing moire when scanning films is by wetmounting it, but I do not believe this will help you much since the CD has different layers not accessible to you.

Perhaps some other person has more ideas.

This isn't film that I'm scanning. It is a CD. The text you see in the screenshot of the Silverfast pre-scan is printed directly on the top surface of the CD. In other words, there is no adhesive label on the surface which has been printed... the printing is directly onto the surface of the CD itself.

That "rainbow" coloration you see is NOT on the CD. The "rainbow" came from Silverfast's response to the lighting from the Epson scanner bulb reflecting off of the reflective surface of the CD... along with the moire effect.

So... both (a) the "rainbow", and (b) the moire effect, are NOT on the CD if you look at it. Both of these are obviously due to the reflection from the Epson bulb bouncing off of the reflective surface of the CD.

Since I was trying to scan an image of the CD surface so that I could print an adhesive label to put onto the copy of the CD I was making, and since the scan wasn't producing results I could use, I decided to just use my labeling software to create my own label... using the text and various fonts (as best as I could mimic) from the original CD.

Exactly that was my point. I do not think these two things can be elliminated because it is the way the CD reacts to illumination. If I were in your situation I'd have done the same you did.
