Help with correct settings for colour management

Postby capnjkirk » Sun Oct 15, 2006 1:54 am

I've recently purchased the Epson Perfection 4990 which included SilverFast Ai version 6.
I have not purchased the option to calibrate the scanner with an IT8 target.
I'm scanning photographic prints and have Windows XP.
I have read Ian Lyons brief monograph "SilverFast Ai and HDR and Colour Management."

In the SilverFast software, under Options-->Profiles for ICM, one of my choices is SF_R (Epson Perfection 4990).

Am I correct in assuming that SF_R (Epson Perfection 4990) is a scanner profile provided by silverfast and that if I

choose to use it (recognizing that its not going to be quite as accurate as a self-made profile, calibrated with an IT8

target), I should follow Mr. Lyons advice, using his Example 4 with the following settings:

Under CMS
in the Colour Management section
Input-->Internal: set Image Colour Matching (ICM)

then
in the Profiles for ICM section
Scanner (Reflective): set SF_R (Epson Perfection4990)

Or, am I incorrect in my assumption that SF_R (Epson Perfection 4990) is a scanner profile?

Thanks,
Bob G

You are correct in assuming it is a scanner profile provided by LaserSoft for SilverFast.
