I am now using the May 19 update of Silverfast Ai v6.5.0r6 for an Epson 2450 connected by Firewire to an Intel Mac running OS 10.4.9 with current security updates.
I had written about freezes to Photoshop CS3 with the original upgrade version 6.5.0r6: just as a scan was complete and the image was opening in Photoshop, Photoshop would freeze. In fact, the whole system was effectively frozen as Force Quitting did not work. The Force-Quit dialogue box would show 'Photoshop is not responding', and there was no escape except by a hard restart of the Mac.
This problem seemed to have been vanquished after uninstallling the original 6.5.0r6 and reinstalling the May 19 update. However, now there is an intermittent problem with the system freezing on first attempting to open Silverfast via the Import command in Photoshop. The Force-Quit dialogue box now shows CS Services as well as Photoshop. It is possible to force-quit CS services but not Photoshop: again, this requires a hard restart of the Mac. So far this problem has arisen when scanning several images sequentially. Silverfast seems to operate normally if the scanner is powered off and on again between scanning images.
Freezing in CS3 returns in slightly different form
Dear Felix
all installers for Macintosh for the 6.5.0r6 release have been remade this weekend (June, 16-17th) and uploaded to our website.
They incorporate further fixes for better compatibility with Photoshop CS3.
Please update (you might need to remove the SilverFast application directory before running the installer).
It might also be recommendable to remove the user-specific settings folder (under /User/(your username)/Library/Preferences/LaserSoft Imaging/SilverFast) prior to the installation of the latest update release.
Best regards
