Focusing the 1640XL

Postby maico996 » Thu May 22, 2003 4:41 pm

Hi,
Can anybody tell me what the focus point should be for a positive slide in the included slide holder? How about for 4x5 transparencies?

Thanks!

Focus point transparency 1640XL

Focus point transparency 1640XL

The focus point for slides is 2 mm above the glass. Since the scanner has quite a depth of focus the focus point is not critical.

Hello

Sorry for my interference, but I'm interested in the focus point question.

I have recently bought SF AI 6 (about 7 days ago) and I found it fantastic, really!
However, I have seen that other scan softwares allow me to regulate (manual or automatic regulation) the focus point of my scanner.
I have an Epson Perfection 1240U with TPU and I scan only Slides.

Can I find somewhere in SF6 a sort of "focus point" regulation?
Can I verify in some way if my scanner focusing is optimal or not?

Sorry for my bad english, but I'm italian.

Regards

Uomoserio

Manual Focus control for Epson Scanner

Postby President_LSI » Tue Jul 08, 2003 1:03 am

Dear Uomoserio,

the less expensive Epson scanners do not have manual focus control, only the higher end ones, such as the Expression 1640 XL, have.

Since your scanner also has quite some depth of focus, there is no way to get better focus. You can only tweak the Unsharp Masking in SilverFast Ai to get a sharper image (but only to some degree).

best regards
