Hi again!

Two days ago i received my new Epson 1680pro. It is the device that comes bundled with SilverFast IT8 full version. As i unpacked the thing i saw that it only contains version 5.1.

As i follow this board for a few weeks now, i recognized that the 2450 comes actually bundled with version 5.5 and it makes me wonder that the "pro" version comes only with 5.1. Is there a way to get the latest version from Epson or Lasersoft direct as a free upgrade, or do i have to bite the lemmon and pay a full upgrade price once more? (this would be a pain for me since i upgraded yet for my Umax and the Nikon)
Is the 1680pro bundling obsolet, or did i still got an old device package?
Please, can someone from the staff tell me more on this?

regards
Wolfgang

SilverFast bundling and Upgrade Policies

SilverFast bundle versions are based on contracts with manufacturers such as Epson and others where we get very little money for the single copy.
The hardware vendor puts SilverFast into his scanner box and the user gets a nice package without having to pay a significant higher price.

LaserSoft Imaging has to make money on the upgrades. A good product can only live and progress from the investments that we can make into the development.

Time lags between a new release that we post and when the manufacturer has the same release as a bundle version in his box are unavoidable. We have to profit from upgrades due to enough bundle version that might need the upgrade.

Looking at companies such as Agfa, Linotype and others that due to not making enough money, do retreat from the market is showing the situation that a development company is confronted with.

We have only come that far by really working hard (often 16 hours a day) and with the bundles and upgrades being able to survive and make money for further investments into development.

Be assured that we are trying to keep the upgrade pricing as low as possible, but we need as many users as possible to buy upgrades in order to make SilverFast better and better and to be able to listen and respond to user`s request!

For those users that have already purchased several updates and registered, there will at least be a substantial price reduction.

Dear Mr. Zahorsky!

Thank you for your honest reply to my request.
I didn?t thought that the licence fee of the HW producers for the bundled full versions are that low. I understand your point of view and surely will support LaserSoft also in the future in using and updating SilverFast. It is a wonderfull product i wouldn?t miss anymore.

friendly regards

I just received my 1680 Expression. I had to wait 2 months from CompUSA to get it.

I got AI 5.5 in my bundle. They do change the bundles as time goes by.

What a great product!
