Dear Lasersoft team,

I run a Demo of AI 5.5.2 for the Epson2450 (WinXP Prof., Corel PhotoPaint).

Besides during warm-up, the Epson2450 bulbs are switched off/on for every scan of a scan session. In batch scan mode, this is the case for each individual frame.

The Epson behaves identically.

I would like to scan a lot of images, and at least two on/off cycles (prescan/scan) are needed for each scan.

The lifetime of a scanner bulb is shortened, to my knowledge, by every on/off cycle.

Is this behaviour intended / similar to the case of ink jet print head cleaning cycles which rapidly empty the ink containers but fill the pockets of the companies with our money we give to replace items?

Please get rid of these on / off cycles!

Supplement to my first mail:

The Epson software behaves identically.

Hello Guenter,

as far as i know of the lamps that EPSON uses ( which are cold cathode lamps ), they are quite immune against beeing switched on & off, so that you should not worry about that.

And apart from beeing no threat to the lamps life, switching those lamps on & off also has no impact on the scanning time, because those wonderful lams need virtually no warm up time.

I hope that helps,

Nils
