Has anyone else noticed improved image quality by changing the "Profiles for ICM" under options from "SF_R (Epson4990)" to "EPSON Perfection4990"?
I did some comparative scans (No adjustments in either program) the other day and noticed the image quality was generally better with Epson Scan. I looked to see which profile was being used by Epson Scan (EPSON Perfection4990) and then selected the same profile in SilverFast which has resulted in a significant improvement in the over all quality of my reflective scans. Of course with the additional capabilities of SilverFast I am able to leave Epson Scan that much further behind regarding image quality.

Dear RAG
both profiles are supplied with SilverFast, because we found that with certain production ranges, the standard generic profile does not sufficiently represent the scanners' colour reproduction qualities.
However, with lots of other 4990s, the profile labeled "EPSON Perfection4990" might indeed yield better results.
Both profiles are thus thought to be used with SilverFast, although usually only one of them will "fit" for your given scanner.
