Epson 836XL and Firewire

Postby electours » Thu Nov 17, 2005 11:33 pm

I've got an old reliable Epson 836XL that I'd like to use with my Mac G5 - does anyone have any experience using this scanner with the Ratoc Systems FR1SX Scsi to Firewire converter?? Does it work at all and with Silverfast?

TIA

Dear electours

we had some positive experience with the Ratoc FR1SX, however, it unfortunately cannot be assumed that every scanner will run with it under every OSX release.

You might find that implementing the SCSI API from Jaguar in Panther and Tiger will help you out.

Did you try the adaptor?

We have the same, trusty, scanner and would like to use it with our *best* G5.

Well,

As much as I like to hang on to old hardware that works, the hardware and Operating System manufactures can't afford to provide support for ever, right? :(

I think we might buy the adapter next week and see if it works.

And if not: We have a nice external Hammer drive that is not being used that should work for it.

Well...It didn't work.

Our next choice is a SCSI card. $$$
