Scanned photos have lots of "dust" or "noise" which does not appear on the photo or scanner glass. Parenthesis are used because neither description really fits. Lots of small white specks appear and show up most clearly in dark areas. It is really a problem which I did not experience with my old HP Photo scanner.
Thanks for any help. Carolyn

Dear Carolyn,
do you got the same "dust" when scanning with Epsonscan ? if this is the case it could be that there may is some
dust in the scanner itself.
If everything seems to be ok with epson scan it still could be some microscopic dust as SilverFast obtains moore image Data form the Scanner than Epson Scan.
I would alo like to know your "settings" to see if they maybe result in this nosie.
