Epson 4990 with Silverfast Ai hanging up during batch scan

Just bought Epson 4990. Upgraded to Silverfast Ai to use batch scanning. Running XP sp2.

While scanning in batch mode using either the job manager or regular batch scan, software will scan a couple images and then just freeze. It looks like it is doing something, however it will remain in this state until I kill the program and restart. Scanning using transparency mode, Digital ICE and auto-correction to JPEG files ~1.5MB. I saw the posting about issues with high resolution scanning, but I didn't think 4x6 450dpi was asking too much.

Any thoughts?

I have a question for you. When you say scanning 4X6 at 450dpi, is 4X6 the output size and if it is what is the scale factor? I ask because the scale factors times the specified resolution yields the required scanning resolution. If this is over 4800dpi it involves interpolation and will take more memory and time to scan.
