Hi--
I just downloaded the demo for the Epson Perfection 1640 and it looks like Silverfast is not having the scanner focus correctly when scanning negatives. For example, when using the supplied 35mm filmholder, the Epson software provides good images. Scanning the same thing with silverfast results in very soft images. Putting the negative right on the glass results in a good image from silverfast. Is this a known bug, a problem in methodology, etc.??
Thanks--
Greg

The focus for negative film is on the glass plate by default. Click the focus button to switch the focus to 2,5 mm above the glass!

Greg,
I've also got an Epson - here's the button you're looking for:
<img src="http://www.webdextrous.com/test/focus1.gif" width="24" height="25">
for transperencies it's 2.5
and:
<img src="http://www.webdextrous.com/test/focus2.gif" width="24" height="25">
0.0 for reflective.
This button is in the preview window below the ScanPilot button, and above the Calibration button.

Hope this helps,
Ian A.

The focus button is not there. The buttons that I have in my preview window are:
--Info
--Help
--Rotate
--Mirror
--Scan Pilot
--Multiple scans
--Delete Frame
--Light Spot / Dark Spot and Frame Number
There is no focus button.
Why not???
Thanks again--
Greg
