Dear John
for calibration scans to use with a third party software you want to make sure that there aren't any influences by the scanning software.
This is easiest done in SilverFast with an HDR scanning mode. You will find that SilverFast delivers the image data from the scanner's CCD to a TIFF file, not adjusting anything - in fact, all the options are even greyed out.
However, SilverFast even doesn't correct gamma / asks the scanner to send data at an unmodified gamma curves of 1.0 value.
As your system's environment is set higher (usually ranging from 1.8 to 2.2), you want to adjust this option by enabling the "for HDR output" checkbox in the SilverFast options dialogue:

I'm very disappointed in Epson!
I bought this V750 "Pro" scanner thinking that for the hundreds of dollars more than the V700 it would be bundled with all the software necessary for optimum performance. But NOOOOooooooo. It seems that it is a mish mash of mismatched pieces. Why the heck would Epson supply Silverfast scanning software and not the "optional" IT8 color calibration software but Monaco EZcolor instead?
It just doesn't make sense unless..... unless it is a marketing ploy to have us buy the IT8 out of sheer frustration OR the Monaco OPTIX!
That's pretty slick of you Epson. Having customers pay extra to become frustrated. If I had to the purchase to make over, I would make a different one.
The more I think about it the madder I become.
