4990 and Photoshop CS2

Postby yopwongsapn » Tue Jan 24, 2006 10:15 pm

I am having trouble opening any image scanned in Silverfast with Photoshop. Whenever I attempt to open an image from Silverfast, I get an error saying "Photoshop cannot complete this request, because it has encountered a program error". Any image that was not scanned with Silverfast opens just fine.

Any ideas?

yopwongsapn,

I have a 4990 and don't have this problem. I am using a PC Vs a MAC and have SilverFast AI Studio 6.4.3r6.

What are you running?

I am running Silverfast AI 6.something or other (sorry, I don't have the exact version; it's in the lab) on Mac OS X 10.4.4. We also have Macs with Silverfast AI for Epson 4870's and Minolta Dimage IV's, and don't have this problem; it's only the 4990.

My coworker told me today that just recently this started on his system at home (AI for the 4990 on a Mac). I'm guessing that it may have something to do with a Photoshop update, or possibly an OS X update. The question is, which one could it be? Is there a Silverfast update that may help me?

So, just to recap, here's the deal. We can scan images on the 4990 through the Silverfast AI program. They are saved to the hard drive, and can be opened in any other image viewing program on the Mac (i.e. Preview). However, when I try to open the image in Photoshop CS2, I get the above program error. Can anyone help me?

The latest version may help both of you.

If you look on the LaserSoft home page you will see an update notice in the lower left corner of the page. Click on the version number and it takes you to a page where you download the version for your scanner and OS.

Thanks for the tip; ironically, I decided last night to try and update Silverfast first thing this morning.

Anyway, updating solved the problem. Just out of curiosity, does anyone have any idea what caused this problem to begin with?

If you didn't already you might check the SilverFast log file for clues.
