1680 freezes after V.6 upgrade

For over 12 months I have used Silverfast Ai Version 5.1.2 on an Epsom 1680 Expression scanner, G4 Mac, OS 9.0.1, Photoshop 5.02 with very few problems. The product is fantastic. Occasionally I needed to re-enter the serial number and was told by LSI Tech Support that upgrading would 'fix' this problem.

As version 5x is no longer supported I boldly (or stupidly) paid for and downloaded Version 6. After upgrading OS to 9.1 then 9.2 & 9.2.2 and Photoshop to v.6.01 (as per System Requirements) I succcessfully installed & serialized Silverfast.

Unfortunately that is where my problems began. Prescan is fine but when Scan button is pressed the scanner tries to scan then locks up. I have to force quit Photoshop to unlock the 'freeze' (Exactly the same problems as - ptrautwein - posted 30 March 2003, 'Freezes when.....')

LSI Tech Support were notified of the problem and are are trying to solve it but can anybody offer some suggestions? In the mean time I have had to de-install 6 and re-install 5 to continue to be productive.

Also, the reply from LSI Sperling to ptrautwein ( 01 April) states that a new demo version would be posted on the web the next day, the same day I downloaded a 'paid for' version. Why are full versions being offered when the demo version obviously has major bugs?

This bug doesn't happen all the time, in fact the versions delivered worked here without a problem. After some users have reported that error, we were able to reproduce it and will shortly (in the next few days) post new updates and demos. Sorry for the inconvenience.
