"Overview" problem - Epson 4990

Postby Grzegorz » Sun Jan 16, 2005 1:49 am

Hello

I am using SilverFast AI version 6.4.1r1 and new EPSON 4990.

I am unable to get the new version to work: I can not find "Overview" button :( and open "Overview" window.

General/Original: Negative. (Document Feeder isn't available !)
General/Scan Mode: Batch Mode (File)

I insert the film holder before opening SilverFast.

Any ideas?

Hello Grzegorz,

What operating system are you using? Also, it would help to know whether you're trying to use Silverfast from within Photoshop (as a plugin) or as a standalone application. And finally, are you having trouble with the Epson scanner software as well, or just Silverfast?

Dear Grzegorz,

before posting in a forum it's always a good idea to do a search for the topic you are about to post; if you would have done a search for "Epson" and "Overview", you would have found the answer.

Anyway I will answer your question:
The Epson 4990 is a flatbed scanner; in contrast to the Epson software SilverFast does only offer an overview dialog for real film scanners.

To scan all images you should set up on frame with all the settings you want to have and copy that frame (by Alt-clicking or holding the Ctrl key while dragging the frame to the new place) to every image in the preview window. After you have done that, you can save this frame layout in the General panel under "Frame Sets" for later use with this film holder.

Best regards
Ralf

Ralf,
Thanks for the response and clear answer in 2005 year.
OK, I agree, "it's always a good idea to do a search for the topic ..." but I find only old topic (2003).

Best regards
Grzegorz

Grzegorz, if you get some free time, can you give us your impression of the Epson 4990 so far? If you could post some scans at a free photo hosting site like http://www.imageshack.us/index.php, I (and many other Epson fans across the web) would be eternally grateful. :) Information on this scanner is hard to obtain. It's very frustrating!
