What's Happening to My File

Postby mgilvey » Thu May 05, 2005 4:40 am

Ok,

I did a white balance for my flash unit, then took a picture of my DCPro target, ran the calibration, then photographed a necklace on a white backgroun (camera in the same position with same lighting). I shot a RAW NEF.

Next I navigated to the file in VLT, I see the thumbnail, it looks like a perfect exposure. I single click on the image and VLT says it's converting the file (I thought that only happened when I told it to after dragging it into the Album area...the bottom area). So the file converts and looks grey. I double click it to look at it in DCPro and it still looks grey. I click the second button (now with a red "C" in it) and it makes it a little better but still grey.

Is something wrong, do I need to do something else or perhaps just open the lens up one more aperture?

I'll try the apeture thing while I wait for a reply and let you know.

Ok, I opened the aperture one stop and it seemed to help but what helped even more was placing the greyscale end of my IT8 target in the shot. I guess that gave DCPro something to balance that covered the entire tonal spectrum.

Now lets see if I can repeat the results. I don't get to work with my D70 or DCPro Studio enough to have a full handle on both. Hopefully I will get more opportunity shortly.
