Image scan problem after OS X Panther Sleeps or Screensaver

Postby mkw » Thu Aug 26, 2004 12:25 am

I am experiencing a couple of problems with Silverfast AI for the Canon FS4000US scanner. Platform is Mac OS X, Panther 10.3.4. Scanner is connected via USB port.

Apparently, any time that the system goes to sleep when the Silverfast application is active (the standalone version) and the computer screensaver is activated, some sort of corruption occurs. :x

This corruption takes the form of Silverfast being unable to scan properly. All susequent scans, whether they are batch or single frame type, appear as "black" in the preview pane (or green, or some other color). That is, the scan process returns only a black field in the preview pane and no image data whatsoever.

All attempts to scan or reset parameters at this point are ineffective. The only way to correct the problem is to shut down Silverfast and restart the application.

Is there any reason why Silverfast should behave in this manner?

Dear mkw

it might be a power management problem of Mac OS when using the devices connected to the USB port.

Please make sure to have the latest OS X of your flavour installed.

If nothing else helps, try to avoid putting your computer system to sleep.
I have not yet heard of such a problem with desktop Macintosh machines.

The are, however, similar issues with firewire controllers of notebooks running Windows XP, which made me think of this. You might want to ask Apple support about this "feature".

Kind regards

Thanks. I guess I'll wait until they decide to update AI (not studio) with
the multiple exposure.
