problem with artifacts on final scan

Postby lukesatoru » Thu Dec 01, 2011 4:22 am

scanner: Canoscan 8400F
version: Silverfast SE 6.6.2
neg: black & white Ilford FP4 Plus 125

settings:
3200 dpi
16-8bit grayscale
autosharpen
image type: standard
film type exposure: Ilford FP4 Plus 125
*no additional changes to settings

The artifacts are not showing up in the pre-scan but once done, there are grey-fractal shapes in place of the highlighted areas. The shapes are not related to the areas they are placed in, I have another image of a cobble-stone road and there are triangular shape artifacts. Any clue what is causing this? I've scanned without using Silverfast and no artifacts.

YOur sample is unfortunately not visible, but I assume you are trying to correct a B&W image using infrared.
This is unfortunately not possible as the silver halegonid emulsion distorts the infrared beam.
B&W images can only be corrected manually using SRD.

kind regards,
