Have a Canon FB1200S flatbed scanner, Mac OS X 10.2.4 'Jaguar,' Apple PowerMac 8600 + Sonnet G3/500MHz upgrade CPU daughtercard.
When I click 'Prescan' I get an error, 'Error in Scan Start. Cannot send command <Mode Select>.' Same error is generated if I click 'Scan.' Needless to say, I cannot scan!
My scanner is successfully located in the 'Devices:' drop-down list of the 'General' tab of the main SilverFast window, and also when I select 'Search devices'; it is reported as 'SCSI 0:2: CanoScan FB1200S.' This seems correct, since my scanner is set to SCSI ID 2, and Apple System Profiler reports it as 'IOSCSIParallelDevice,' 'SCSI Target 2,' 'SCSI lun 0,' which all seems to match up.
It seems like it ought to work. Would dearly love to be able to use this scanner without booting back into OS 9. Didn't buy it all that long ago. Any suggestions? Many thanks!

Will keep checking back
Thank you, Eric! I hope the developer can help us with the error.
Hardware details for Armando and MitchBray
Eric & LaserSoft developers:
I spoke with Armando (the other post on this thread) via private messages and can provide a few other details about his and my hardware configurations.
Armando is using a PowerMac G4/400 (AGP) Rev. A model. Mac OS X 10.2.4 'Jaguar' is installed, as well as OS 9.2.2 'Classic'. He is using the SCSI PCI card that was supplied with the Canon CanoScan FB1200S to connect the scanner. He indicated that the same errors are generated for him when booted back into OS 9 as well as in X.
I haven't tried SilverFast in OS 9 (I was evaluating it to move my scanning capabilities to X; I'd buy it immediately if it actually allows me to do this).
My FB1200S scanner is attached via motherboard SCSI (external connector) on the aforementioned PowerMac 8600. There are devices on this external SCSI chain both before and after the physical connection of the scanner that work fine in X (LaCie CD burner- comes after, Castlewood 'Orb' removable disc drive- comes before).
Thanks for any assistance you can provide to get it working!

Updated software is not yet available?
Eric,
I don't wish to be a pest, but I note that the updated software has not been made available yet. Do you have a sense of when it will be ready and posted to the site for download?
Thanks again for your follow-through on this issue.
