Hi -
I have used Auto-IT8 for calibrating my new Canoscan 9000F using a 35mm Lasersoft target. Is this recommended, or should I be using a larger transparency ? When I compare a scan with a scan from my Minolta DSMP (which is very close to the original transparency) , the colour balance is not quite the same (using same workflow in Silverfast - you can see more about this here:http://www.snowhenge.net/index.php/pblog/article/canoscan_9000f_vs_minolta_dsmp/
The calibration works fine, giving a result of -0.8 if I remember correctly. Although I don't expect the same result from each scanner, I sort of expect a close match in the midtones, given both are calibrated and use the same workflow.
So should I try a different target ?
Thanks
David

Re: CanoScan 9000F IT8 calibration
Dear David,
a Delta E of 0,8 is very good.
Nothing much to improve there.
The size of the Target only matters in regard to aging resistance and handling.
A larger Target will not give a better result.
Two differnet scanner models will hardly ever give you exactly the same scanresult.
This always depends on the used lightsource, Sensor, drivers, film material, etc.
The IT8 calibration makes sure the scanner uses it's full potential and secured stable color values.
It e.g. can not force the scanner to catch data beyond it's capabilities.
A different device might be able to perceive a different color space.
kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Can I use for Auto IT8 Calibration this target? - http://www.fcenter.ru/img/article/scane ... 115850.jpg
It differs from this - http://images.silverfast.eu/img/newslet ... 8_E_13.jpg
What type of target should I use? IT8.7/1 (transparent target) or IT8.7/2 (reflective target)?
