Canon 9950F Windows 7 64 bit

Postby John3:16 » Wed Feb 16, 2011 6:59 pm

Are you saying that LaserSoft has given up on providing a Windows 7 64 bit software for this scanner? There was previously talk of a total rewrite to make it compatible....

By locking the previous topic of this discussion is LaserSoft saying it no longer wants to discuss the issue? Do you no longer care about your customer concerns? Maybe the thread was just getting too long, so we will try again.

Why is it that Canon can provide support, as well as other software manufacturers, including v**s**n, but LaserSoft cannot?.

Given that this forum does not allow any posts it does not like I doubt this will even make the cut. My serious consideration is now to switch softwares and keep my very capable scanner. This scanner has a large following and I find it untenable that Win 7 64 bit support will not be provided. I am both sad and angry .

Dear John,

The Adapten of the Canon 9950 has proven to be much more work than we originally thought.
This would require the rewriting of the entire driver.
The existing drivers do not provide the interface modules we require.

Unless more customers request support for this scanner we can not justify the work which hast to be put into this project.
Currently fewer than ten customers have requested support for this device.

Hamrick indeed did write his own drivers but he also does not access the scanner hardware at the same extent as we do.

kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn

Hi,

The simplest solution for me was to make my desktop PC a dual boot system: Win 7 Professional 64 bit and Win XP 32 bit. So the problem was easy for me to solve and I get Silverfast updates for the Canon 9950f Scanner in the Win XP system. I Scan in Win XP then reboot into Win 7 to work on the file in Photoshop CS 5 64 bit. I also have a printer that I use for Black and White glossy inkjet printing that is also not supported in Win 7 (HP Photosmart 8750) but is still supported in Win XP. All my pigment printing is done in Win 7. You don't need a lot of space for a dual boot system if you are just going to have Silverfast, the 9950f and image editing software on the Win XP boot. I already had Win XP s/w so it was an easy decision for me. The XP operating system should be pretty inexpensive now that Win 7 has been out for a while. Just partition a portion of your disk for XP and do a clean install on the new partition. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, I am sure there are plenty of computer geeks around that can provide assistance. Good luck.

Regards,

DavidL

The Canon 9950 is listed as "available in next phase" for Siverfast 8.

Does this mean there is now a different situation whereby the driver can be supported?

If so, is there an expected time frame?

... Or could this add up to long waits and wishful thinking as in the past?

Murray

Hi Murray

No, it means scanners listed in the next stage will be the next we will try to implement.

It might be possible or it might not be, it is hard to say right now.

No, but it will be after we finish with the first batch of scanners.
We want to make it within the next six months but this is not a fact, it depends on the individual implementation for each device.

In the mean time ArcSoft PhotoStudio 6 appears to be an alternative. It is working for me in free trial mode. I am able to control my 9950f on my Windows 64 bit machine, scanning slides at 4800 dpi.

Scanner: I would like to use my Canon 9550 F and buy the Ai Studio 6.6 but theres no Windows 7 64 bit version. So i use v**s**n. It would be really great if you would get a 64 bit version! In the forum it says only 10 want it... weil now its 11.

I also have a Canon 9950F that I'm very happy with. I just wanted to change from v**s**n to Silverfast and buy Ai Studio 6.6. I'm sad to see there is no Windows 7 64 Bit support.

You say only 10 Customers want it... well now it's 11. I only searched in the forum because I was frustrated about the situation and I can imagine that there are a lot of Customers (or potential Customers) that would like that 64 bit version for this scanner but they just give up and go to v**s**n who supports it.

I read that SilverFast is the Photoshop of scanning software. I don't want to use the Elements of scanning software... I want the best. Please reconcider!

Dear Janet,

Thank you for your interest in SilverFast.
Unfortunately the currently available driver does not offer some important functions which SilverFast requires.
We are of cause still interested in supporting this device.
At the moment however I can not tell if or when this could be possible.

kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

"Unfortunately the currently available driver does not offer some important functions which SilverFast requires."

Can tell us what is required so Canon 9950F users can request Canon to add this functionality into their driver.

Like the previous poster I want to use the latest version Silverfast on my Windows 7 machine, until then I will be using V*e*c*n

Dear customer,

Our developers are still searching for options to access these devices.
However the current solutions do not allow SilverFast's advanced features.
So I can not say when a solution will be possible.
But we are in contact with the manufacturer and I will post here as soon as something changes.

kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.
