Hi guys,

Every scanner model is like a person, different from the rest. Not all people speak the same language, everyone has his/her feelings, ideas and work in a determined way. It is more or less the same with scanners, not all drivers work in the same way, they have certain code to be deciphered, different light sources and speeds and different set of commands, plus some of these are encrypted, which is the case with this scanner model and some others from canon.
Without the codes to decrypt those commands we are more or less working in a maze blindfolded. There are lots and lots of trial and error, sometimes even after months of work the outcome might be negative.
We are not just sitting waiting, out engineers are doing their work but this scanner model has proved to be difficult and problematic.

I hope the previous lines give some insight into the process and clarification as to "why is the scanner model not yet implemented".

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Best regards

Thank you, I think that needed to be said.
Ok, I'll wait (I only bought the scanner a year or so ago) or I'll change back to Snow Leopard.
But, I'll keep watching and waiting with fingers crossed.
Thanks again.

Thanks for the explanation also from my side.

I really hope you will be quickly able to solve the problem as being forced to stay on an old OS (Snow Leopard) is quite annoying.
My scanner is only 1 year old and I would like to avoid to being forced to buy a new one: in case the process will take too long I think I will move to v**s**n

It seems Canon 8800F is now supported!!!

http://www.silverfast.com/show/lion/en.html

is that correct?
As soon as I have a confirmation I will both update OSX to Lion and Silverscan!

Hi there,

it is correct, however I suggest you download and test the demo version of SilverFast 8 under your actual operating system with the 64 bit driver before updating the operating system.

Cheers

Canoscan 8800F + OSX LION

Postby osmanbalkan » Fri Oct 21, 2011 5:10 pm

hello,

i recently bought the silver fast 8 upgrade as i was told it just came out. I'm operating on mac osx lion. (tried it with and without the canon drivers) but as soon as i want to start silver fast 8 it gives me an error message as attached. in english that would mean:

"There was a problem starting your scanner.
Please make sure your drivers are installed correctly.
Exiting now..."

and after pressing ok. it does so. it quits.

so, as this is kind of frustrating and i have to work with my scanner, i would appreciate a solution to this problem as quickly as possible.

Hi, this is not completely clear to me.

I downloaded and installed Silverfast but it can't start the scanner: do I have to install 64bit Canon drivers first?

Anyway I tried both...running silverfast alone and the installing Canon 8800f drivers (can't find any difference on Canon website between 32bit OSX 10.6 and supposed 64bit OSX 10.7 drivers...downloaded file is exactly the same.

So when I try to start Silverfast it says it can't find the drivers and the scanner and it exits..

Hi

Since the drivers of the scanner are only 32 bits (under Mac), you have to start SilverFast in 32 bit mode.

For that you have to right click (or ctrl+click) on the starting icon to open the context menu.

Select "Info"

During these Xmas holidays I finally had time to scan some negatives with SilverScan 8.

I must say that the program is very very unstable and crashing consistently mostly during setup phase when you select what kind of scan you want to do (color/BW, positive/negative, etc...)

Is there any incoming update which will improve stability? is this a general problem or is this related to Canon 8800f model?

Most likely there will be an update coming the first weeks of January.
