No SCSI Controller Detected
No SCSI Controller Detected
I just installed SilverFast Ai version 6 trial edition for the Acer 2720S and when I attempt to launch it, I get the error message: "No SCSI Controller Detected". I am using the ACard controller that came with the scanner and have installed the latest drivers, version 2.35, for the ACard AEC-6710S adapter. I'm running Windows 2000 on a MIS motherboard with the 266A chipset, 1GHz Duron uP, and 512MB of RAM. Both v**s**n and Mira can recognize the scanner. Can anyone make a suggestion? I do have SIIG ATA66 PCI card installed, which registers with Windows 2000 as a SCSI adapter. I use this card for a tape and zip drive since both internal IDE buses are in-use. Could this card be causing the problem?
No SCSI Controler Detected
I have the same problem with Silverfast Ai demo version 6 as a previous poster. When trying to install on a Dell 4400 (Pentium 4 1.6 GHz, 256 MB memory, WinXP Home Edition, Acard AEC-6710D PCI SCSI controler) I get a No SCSI Controler Detected message. Mirafoto and v**s**n have no problen with this. Scanner is an Acer 2720S. Any suggestions ?

Be sure to have the newest driver for the ACARD SCSI card installed. We had problems running SilverFast with the driver from the CD under Win2K (SF opened, but couldn?t scan).
Look for drivers for your ACARD SCSI cards AND Acer scanner (I don?t know, why the Acer scanners need special drivers). The WEB site is http://www.acard.com.
Eric.

no SCSI device detected...
I am having the same issue as everybody else (P4 2.53 in a shuttle SS51G system, 1Gig, winXP). I am at a loss since I downloaded the latest Acard drivers ( version 2.35 from http://www.acard.com/eng/support/driver.html ), as detailed in the last post. I also downloaded the latest scanner drivers from the BenQ Web site ( version MiraFoto
v2.0.1.2 from http://www.benq.com.tw/global/service/scan/drivers.htm )
My Scanwit 2720S is still not recognized from Photoshop7, despite the perfect functioning of MiraPhoto. I'm using the latest Silverfast Ai demo posted (photoshop plugin.) Any suggestions?

I wanted to try Silverfast Ai 6 Demo with my Acer 2740 Scanner under Windows XP (Hardware: Athlon 700, 256 MB, 3dfx Banshee, Acard AEC 6710D with Acer scanner, Adaptec 2940UW with internal zip drive) and encountered the same problem as mentioned earlier in this topic of the forum:
Error message "SCSI Adapter not found" when Silverfast starts up (both Twain driver and Photoshop plugin)
Solution:
1) Install the SCSI driver for the AEC 6710S card (directly from the ACARD website: www.acard.com). Do not use the driver from Benq for the AEC 6710D - there seems to be a problem with Silverfast and that driver which shows itself in a non-working autofocus and other niceties (see related topic in this forum).
Eric Flyvberg wrote on Feb 25, 2002 in "Problem with focus and other...": "The ScanWit2740 is shipped with the SCSI adapter AEC-6710D from ACARD. We found that there is a problem with this adapter and Win2K. If you use this SCSI adapter you may want to download a driver update from ACARD?s homepage at "http://www.acard.com/eng/". On this page, select the update for the AEC-6710S (even if your card is an AEC-6710D). You will also find an update for the AEC-6710D (for Acer scanners), but this driver doesn?t seem to work."
Now he writes the opposite (Sep 13, 2002, this topic): "Be sure to have the newest driver for the ACARD SCSI card installed. We had problems running SilverFast with the driver from the CD under Win2K (SF opened, but couldn?t scan).

At least for my system with Windows XP his former statement was the right one.
2) It seems to be necessary that additional ASPI drivers are installed on the system. I was successfull with the package from Adaptec even though the ACARD adapter has nothing to do with Adaptec. I installed the package version 4.71 (from http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/suppor ... i_v471.exe).
This step seems to be neccessary for Silverfast being able to recognize SCSI adapter and scanner.
I hope, these hints are helpful for you.

Windows XP, Scanwit 2720s an d ACard Aec-6710D
I have not been able to get my Scanwit Scanner to work since I went from Windows 2000 to Windows XP. I have downloaded and installed the latest AEC-6710S driver v2.3.5, SilverFast SE Demo for Benq Scanners and Mirafoto 2.0.12. I wish I could find a way to make this work.
Before I installed the latest ACard drivers, Silverfast could see the scanner but could not operate it at all. After I installed the latest ACard driver it doesn't even see the scanner anymore. Mirafoto doesn't work with either.
Can anyone help me please?

Dear users
If one has a closer look at the driver provided for free download from Acard (www.acard.com > Support > Download > Select Product Model > AEC-6710S Disk1 AND AEC-6710S Disk2), one will find that these are ASPI layer drivers for all recent Windows versions (95, 98, ME, NT, 2k, XP, 2003, but not: XP x64).
Both SCSI controller cards which are referred to in this thread (AEC-6710D and AEC-6710S) are supported by this driver.
Also, please note that they do bring their very own version of WNASPI32.DLL. There might be a reason for this. It can be easily distinguished from Adaptec's WNASPI32.DLL of the 4.6 and 4.71 packages.
That Windows does list PCI ATA controllers, especially RAID controllers, but often enough simple UDMA 33/66/100/133 and SATA controllers as well in the SCSI/RAID section of the device manager is just a Windows oddity, but nothing unusual, and it need not worry you.
After installing another ASPI layer driver, it is necessary to reboot the Windows operating system.
You also want to experiment with other free SCSI device IDs. The ones that often work best are 2, 4, and 5. Sometimes you need to change to another SCSI ID because of signal timing problems.
Although SilverFast with the latest releases generally offers to install the 4.71.2 ASPI layer driver from Adaptec (this is an installation option, it can be unchecked), this doesn't mean it it fit for all SCSI controller cards out there, e.g. LSI 53C810/815 cards work better with Adaptec's 4.6 drivers, Tekram controllers need their own ASPI drivers, a.s.o.).
In our testing center, the Benq scanners ran well with AEC cards and Adaptec driver packages, although I suggest you want to install the package from Acard themselves (s. above).
Another problem might be Windows itself. For some weird reason Windows isn't sometimes able to find its I/O modules, because it doesn't search in the system32 directory, but only in the application folder.
Thus, please copy (whatever ASPI package you're using) WNASPI32.DLL from C:\Windows\System32 to your C:\Program files\LaserSoft\SilverFast(plugin name) directory, to where the SilverFast(plugin name).8ba Photoshop plug-in resides.
Best regards
