Window size problem

Postby cedmondson » Sun Jul 31, 2005 10:08 pm

Less than a week ago I installed silverfast SE & a new Plustek OpticFilm 7200 for the first time (I'm a newbie with this stuff). Everything was working OK but after the PC has been left on for a couple of days, has done a few scans and has been used for other applications, I find that the bottom 'band' of a scan is predominantly bright green. After reboot it's OK but eventually, the same thing happens. I updated both Plustek driver and Silvesoft to latest versions and now the preview window opens about 1cm x 2cm - just enough to see the minimise / maximise / close buttons for the window and nothing else. I can't see any way to resize the window.
Even uninstalling / reinstalling Silvesoft, this problem remains. I need to fix this problem first - the program is currently totally unusable, & then maybe as a 2nd step someone can suggest how to solve the 'green band' problem.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.

I am not sure whether my answer helps you due to the long time that passed since your question but maybe my hint does help other users:

The preview window size is so small if the application terminated for some reason while minimised (Show Desktop - Desktop anzeigen in Windows XP). This might lead to invalid window sizes beeing stored (I have previously seen other applications exhibiting such a problem). If the preview window shows up in the small size, it can be resized by dragging one of its edges even if the minimise / maximise buttons do not work (and regardless whether a resize symbol is shown in the lower right corner). The preview window immediately grows to a minimum size needed to show all controls and can then be sized as desired.

Reinstalling does not solve the problem, is the saved settings are not deleted from the system.

This specific FAQ might help your preview window issue.

Q: SilverFast did open and I could work with it, but all of a sudden (or now that I started it anew) it simply behaves odd or the quality is not as before or some dialogs seem not to operate adequately or it does not react anymore.

A: Solution:
It often helps to reset SilverFast's settings to the state immediately after installation of SilverFast software

SilverFast on Windows Systems:
-- SF as Photoshop module
<> ...Adobe Photoshop / Plug-ins / Import-Export / SilverFast / Prefs
-- SF as TWAIN module
<> / Windows or WinNT / TWAIN_32 / LaserSoft / SilverFast / Prefs

Please follow your path down to the "Prefs" folder and delete the entire "Prefs" folder.
This will erase all saved SilverFast settings and will set your SilverFast back to the state before the first-time launch. Restart your application.
