Running windows 7 saving to local disk (C), not much risk of it not being an NTFS filesystem. I'm a comp sci graduate, I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware or configuration issue.
3GB of RAM and static pagefile of 9GB on the SSD (my laptop has 3GB limit due to Intel G945 chipset). I can try connecting it to my big PC with 16GB of RAM but I cannot see why it would differ (and this would require a lot of moving of big hardware).

Have you checked the file systems?
A SSD will not be formated to NTFS.
NTFS is deadly for Flash memory so normally Fat or better exFAT is used.
FAT would have a limitation of 2GB.
exFat can store files of almost any size (16EiB).

SilverFast 8 has no limitations in file size other than storage space and the already mentioned image type limitations.
We tested this and have created files much larger than 2GB.

kind regards,

I piggy back on this topic....

Silverfast Ai Studio 8.8 Build number: 16260
Epson V850
iMac running 10.10.5
Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

I scan a 6x17 film and Silverfast outputs a 14147x42781 pixel file (6400ppi), each pixel is 16bit deep. The TIF file is approx 3.5GB

Neither Photoshop CC, nor Affinity, nor Preview, nor any other image processing software (DxO, Perfect Photo, etc) can open the file. The error message is "file damaged or not recognised."

If I scale down to a 4800ppi scan (all the other parameters being equal) the resulting file is approx 2.1GB and opens without any problem.

I understand TIF has a limit of 4GB (on Photoshop CC at least) so a 3.5GB file should be ok. Are the LaserSoft people reasonably sure that Silverfast - at these extreme parameters - works ok? (That is, it does not generate a damaged file?) I have repeated the same experiments on different scans (to exclude transient disk writing problems) and the result is always the same: none my software can read the scanned file.

Thanks!

Marco

Dear Marco,

We are currently examining this behavior.

Any news on this? I've seen this as well. My files end up as "SF8_tmp106001" within my Temp folder, and never complete when over 2GB. Tiff, PSD, doesn't matter. 16-bit or 48-bit. Latest version.

Yes, One of the components SilverFast is using in creating the files had an issue.
This has been corrected now and we plan to implement this in an update soon.

Kind regards,
Arne.

Any idea when this update will be available? It's next to impossible to scan 4x5 color negs with this issue. :(

Surprised this seems to have been an issue with Silverfast for going on 8 years and is still unresolved! I just purchased an Epson V850 and Silverfast AI studio. I print very large images myself at 44", and vend out larger work. The scanner can handle 8x10 transparencies at 4800 dpi, how is it Silverfast can't handle a freaking file over 2G????? Anyone have a workaround for this? Will contacting Silverfast for a refund!

Dear user

The issue mentioned earlier in this ticket has been solved in our current version.
However this does not change the fact that the Scanner itself can not deliver image data larger then 4GB. That is a hardware limitation.
So in 48->24 Bit mode the image size is limited to 2GB.

Kind regards,
Arne
