Silver Fast Ai talkes much longer to scan

Postby June » Mon Apr 10, 2006 11:54 pm

I have recently upgraded to Photoshop CS2 and to SilverFast Ai. When I use the same resolution (2400) I takes me much much longer to scan an image. I scan black and white negatives on an Epson 1280. Thanks.

Amendment to my message of one minute ago.
I mistakenly identified my scanner. It is the Epson 4870 flatbed and I scan black and white medium format negatives.

Are you by chance using a larger quality factor than before? The other question that comes to mind is, are you up-scaling the image larger than 100%?

I did not find that my scans slowed down after the upgrade, so that is why I?m curious if some settings changed.

After an update from r8 to r9 (Reflecta Digitdia 4000) the scanning time for one slide changed from about 3 to 4 minutes (iSRD enabled) to about 8 minutes, mostly due to computing iSRD.

In addition, the results for iSRD were even worse compared to r8.

I returned to r8.

scans take longer than before

I think the solution lies in the number of passes in the scanning. I had it set to 4 passes inadvertently. Now I have it at 1 pass. But, I'm wondering if it should be at more and how advantageous is it to make multiple pass scans? June

June,

In general one thing you will find is that Multi-pass scanning helps to bring out more detail in the shadows. I recommend doing some comparison scans and if you do not notice an improvement then stick with single pass scans.
