Scan Dialog Box Covers Up Preview Window

The scan box covers up the left part of the preview display. I can't seem to fix it.

Dear Doug,

is it not possible to move the windows?
if you can not move them make sure the welcome screen or any of the option/settings windows is closed.

There was no way to move either window - but I fixed the problem by deleting the preference file.
