Question on Umax PL3000 and SF Ai 5.x

Postby Drol » Fri Sep 06, 2002 5:56 pm

Hello,

Im owner of Umax 3000 and SilverFast AI 5.x.

I want to use 48bit images in Photoshop 7.
What software or upgrade do I need to buy to do that?

Because I cant make PS read HDRaw data normally.

Is upgrade to SF 6.0 AI sufficient? Or do i need to buy SF HDR also?
Is there HDR plugin that can help me load HDR images into SF? I have no clue.

What is best (and cheapest) for me?

Vjr

Powerlook 3000 with SF Ai and SF HDR

Powerlook 3000 with SF Ai and SF HDR

If you want to save a little bit of money (65$ only), you can buy SF HDR 6 and use SF Ai 5.x to save raw data scans from your Powerlook 3000.
You should have SF Ai 5.5.2, since that gives you HiRePP, so you can save raw data 48 bit files with HiRePP active. When you would load these files, which could be as large as 500 MB+, you would open them in only about 1 second in SF HDR 6.
Checkout the HiRePP movie: https://www.silverfast.com/show/highlights/en.html to get the full idea.

SF HDR 6 now also comes with the full SilverFast JobManager, which will give you outstanding productivity!

Photoshop and raw data

Postby President_LSI » Sat Sep 07, 2002 3:33 pm

Adobe Photoshop and raw data (48bit Tif)

SilverFast Ai as well as SilverFast HDR (from version 5.5) can produce fully colour-corrected raw data that is readable by Photoshop.
SilverFast can save as TIFF or Photoshop native format.

Because when I save HDR Tiff image and open it in photoshop, image is dark (almost completely black). So basically you are saying the SF 5.5 and SF 6.0 export those TIFFs so i can open em in photoshop without beeing almost completely black?

If that is the case, Im gonna upgrade to SF Ai 6.0

All I need is the answer that PhotoShop will open images correctly... not opening em as dark dark pictures as it opens my current HDR tiffs.
Yes or No?

48 bit from SilverFast very dark when opened in Photoshop

Postby President_LSI » Sun Sep 08, 2002 12:49 am

48 bit from SilverFast very dark when opened in Photoshop

When you scan into raw data (48 bit tif) with SilverFast Ai and open the image in Photoshop, the image looks very dark because it is 100% raw, no gamma correction has been applied.
You have to use the histogram, curves etc to correct raw date file accordingly in Photoshop.
When you open an image in SilverFast HDR, they will automatically be gamma corrected, so they will look ok.
You can, of course, in SilverFast Ai also save an HDR-file with all corrections into 48 bit. Then open the image in Photoshop and it will look ok.

Im sorry I know that I m really pain in the ass with this but I need to know...

How can I save "Histogram corrected images" in SF Ai 5.x?

I want to import histogram corrected images in photoshop then do some adjustments in photoshop, instead of getting dark pictures in photoshop.

Here is what I do.
I adjust levels, surves etc inside SF Ai so the image looks good.
Then I scan HDR image.
It opens very very dark in the photoshop.
Then I adjust image using curves, levels, etc.
I have a feeling Im massively losing color information if I am adjusting image from dark to light in photoshop.

Why doesnt HDR open as I adjusted it in Ai before scanning instead of opening very dark in PhotoShop? How to open adjusted (light) picture in photoshop?

Thnx,

Saving colour-corrected 48 bit from SilverFast Ai

Saving colour-corrected 48 bit from SilverFast Ai

After you have done your corrections in SilverFast Ai (you should have version 5.5.2 at least or 6), go to the SilverFast "Frame Panel" and set under:

Image Mode: 48 Bit Color

That setting will keep all your color corections into Photoshop. Do not select "48 Bit HDR Color", since that is the setting to save the uncorrected raw data only.
