Prescan looks fine, final scan has red cast

Postby stevie » Fri Sep 22, 2006 4:47 pm

When our scanner operator scans a positive transparency, the prescan looks fine, but the final scan has a red cast to it. This wasn't happening a couple weeks ago, and she doesn't know of any hardware or configuration changes that have been made since then.

The hardware is a late-model Windows XP box and a Microtek ScanMaker i900. We're using SilverFast Ai v6.4.2r2b with Photoshop CS2.

When she scans reflective art with the same equipment, she doesn't get this problem - only with slides.

One of the FAQs on the SilverFast site ( http://www.silverfast.com/faq/1011/en.html ) lists something like this problem:
Q: Final scan does not correspond to prescan in SilverFast. What is wrong?

A: With RGB scans, make sure that the values for "Gamma correction" correspond in SilverFast (Options > General dialog) and in Photoshop (color settings dialog).
Also make sure that your RGB colour space profile chosen in SilverFast (Option > CMS dialog > internal) corresponds to the RGB working colour space profile selected in Photoshop.

However, our version of Photoshop (CS2) and SilverFast (v.6.4.2r2b) don't have the settings as described in the FAQ.

Anyone have any advice on how to apply this FAQ to the problem? Any other suggestions? Thanks very much.

-Steve

-1) does it do this across several film types ?
0) try using high resolution prescan.
1) does it do the same with Microtek software ? if so could be a bad lamp in the TPU
2) any chance that an update was done on the software ? delete the prefs if so
3) delete the prefs
4) update to the latest version
5) are you using an IT8 managed workflow ? make sure the correct profiles are being used.

just a few ideas from previous posts if seen.

Not yet, because I haven't had time to work on the various suggestions. But I will try them when possible, and post my results. -Steve
