Paying for bug fixes

Postby richydicky » Thu May 29, 2008 9:48 pm

Ever since I bought my Microtek 6100 scanner I have not been able to use Silverfast with the Microtek software installed on OS X. I needed the Microtek software for scanning documents and the reason I bought this scanner was that I also had film jobs for which I wanted the Silverfast software.

I upgraded both software in the vain hope that they might work together. Advice from Silverfast was to downgrade Scanmaker, not a satisfactory solution and did not work anyway. The jobs I had have been put on hold.

A month or two ago ago I saw that this problem had eventually been fixed in ver 6.5 ( long after scanner is out of production ) but as that is regarded as a new version of software I have to pay for it. I am not sure what new features that would have to warrant paying another €49. I did request to have the fix for free but have heard nothing since.

I was hoping that Silverfast would be a little more flexible in their policy especially as this is a fix for something I have never been able to use.

Dear rickydicky

did you already test the 6.6 demo successfully on your system or is there still the problem?

Hi. I did briefly try the 6.6 demo, without Scanmaker loaded, but the moving part of the scanner juddered and result was streaks. I did not investigate further as I have found a solution by loading the Microtek software in a Windows emulation program and that works fine for my purposes. I can then continue to use Silverfast 6.4 in OS X. So I'll leave it at that.

Thanks

Richard
