Since i downloaded an older version of silverfast is was able to scan a couple of magazines with iSRD (even though i had to restart sf a couple of time until i was really working).
But now suddenly the silverfast software detects the orientation of the slide incorrect. Deleting the prefs didn't help.
I am wondering why this software has so many bugs (iSRD is only working when i restart the software a couple of times, orientation detection isn't working, the only fixes provided is deleting the prefs which means that i have to configure the software all over again.) I have paid good money for that software and therefore expect it to work without problems!
Orientation detection not working properly

Dear mjr
as you're not giving any reference on system, scanner, version of SilverFast, a.s.o. you are using, I can only guess.
"iSRD" and "orientation detection" does sound like SF 6 Ai for Reflecta Digitdia 4000 and similar devices, supposedly used under Windows XP.
Oh well, as you're referring to iSRD, the software was designed and tested, but scanner manufacturer changed the scanner (read: firmware).
Does this explain your problems?
Only because the application level software is the part you as a user are actually interfacing with shouldn't lead you to conclude that surely everything which doesn't work as intended is that piece of software to blame for.
Orientation: Check > Options > Special > Orientation detection (for prescans).
Check > Main dialogue > General tab > Portrait and Landscape.
Check > Densitometer > Arrow boxes (more information, PDF, 3.2 MByte, p. 43).
