I own a NIKON COOLSCAN II (LS-20) film scanner. I have been using it with Windows 95/98 for 4 years with Silverfast software
and had no problems.
I recently upgraded my PC to Windows 2000 and cannot find drivers for it. Does anybody have any idea if there are such drivers available or what I must do to make the LS-20 work with Windows 2000?

Franks comments are correct. The installation of the ASPI drivers should solve the problem. Win95 and Win98 does install them automatically, WinNT and Win2K does not.
I don?t know, what version of SilverFast you are using, but newer versions do install the ASPI drivers on all platforms.
Don?t forget to reboot after installation.

Thanks for your quick reply!
However the ASPI drivers for the SCSI card is not the issue as the ASPI drivers
have already been installed. As a matter of fact, the second scanner i have
(AGFA Snapscan 600 flatbed) is working fine. The problem is that there are no
W2k drivers for the NIKON Coolscan II film scanner. I searched the NIKON site
but there were only drivers for Win 95/98 and NT.
I have already contacted NIKON (in U.K.) by email askingabout this issue but have no answer yet. As soon as I get their reply, I will post it here.
However, if anybody knows more about this issue I would be gratefull for his help.
Cheers,
Nikos

Hello again,
I finally found out that the scanner works fine with the NIKON 1.63 drivers and in Photoshop with the twain-32 plug-in. I installed silverfast in the Photoshop plugins directory. However, when I use the import (Silverfast (NIKON)) option, I get the message: "Could not complete import command because of a program error".
Any suggestions??

Several possibilities. i looked at the Nikon compatibility chart. vs 1.63 was only tested with NT not win2k. Check the version of ASPI you are using. 4.70 was the first for win2k. i think there is a more recent one. 2) i don't remember if NS 1.63 uses 32 bit or 16 bit twain. Possible source of error. 3) Try the twain version of SF and see if that works, 4) run ASPI check to make sure ASPI is ok. If none of the above works, email me at degrub@flash.net and i will see what i can figure out.

Hello Frank,
Below you can see NIKON's answer to my question regarding the scanner's driver
for W2k. As I told you yesterday, I have already performed these tasks and the
scanner works fine with NIKON Scan software (plugin TWAIN32).
However, I cannot make it work with Silverfast. As soon as I try to make an import
through the silverfast plugin I get the message "Could not complete the import command
because there is no scanner installed".
Now answering your latest questions:
1. The Nikon Scan sw I use is the latest available(V.1.63)
I downloaded the latest ASPI drivers (V.4.71). After running the ASPIcheck I get the
following info: COMPONENT VERSION
ASPI32.SYS 4.71.1
WOWPOST.EXE 4.6(1021)
WINASPI.DLL 4.6(1021)
2. NIKONscan uses TWAIN32.
3.I use an old version of Silverfast (I have it since late 1997 or start of 1998). On the disk there is no
Version indication. The sw works for WIN95 and NT.
I cannot think of anything else to do. At least it works with the NIKONscan sw, but it's a shame as I
am used to the Silverfast sw.
Best Regards,
Nikos
