I'm running Silverfast SE 8.8, Version 8.8.0r8, Build number: 17938. I use a Plustek OpticFilm 8100 on 64bit Windows 7
My PC uses a powerful AMD 8-core CPU and has 8Gb RAM. There is plenty of fast disk space.
During scanning, the CPU load is around 5% and using 2Gb RAM.
However, in between actual scanning, the keyboard becomes unresponsive, and it sometimes takes 20 seconds before I can type a new file name. If I try to type anything else, the keyboard is also unresponsive.
When I am not running Silverfast, the system responds perfectly normally.
What can I do to cure this problem?
Major slowdown when running Silverfast SE Plus

Re: Major slowdown when running Silverfast SE Plus
Dear user,
Window currently has a known issue regarding the multi threading on some systems. Even extremely powerful ones.
Please try the following.
First start SilverFast then:
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del -> Start Task Manager -> Processes Tab -> right click desired program -> Set Affinity
Disable the lowest CPU core
Unfortunately Windows does not store this. So if it helps you will have to do this every time after starting SilverFast.
This by the way can also help with other load intensive apps with which you might be experiencing issues.
Kind regards,
Arne

Re: Major slowdown when running Silverfast SE Plus
Thanks for that solution which helped with my issue.
I started to do some follow up research, and as you said, Windows 7 does not permanently store the affinity.
However, it is possible to modify the shortcut of a program so that whenever it is launched you can set the affinity and the priority. So it would work every time you launch Silverfast, or for that matter, any other program.
The details an be found here http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/37272/set-a-programs-affinity-in-windows-7-for-better-performance/
