Launcher Problem - Launcher won't close when I quit SF

Postby kmlevine » Sat Oct 23, 2004 12:18 am

I am hoping that someone can offer me a solution to an on going problem that happens when I quit SF.

I use a Nikon Coolscan 4000 and the SF plug-in is located in the LaserSoft folder. I use the SF Launcher to open the program, scan a slide, which is saved for Photoshop use later. When I click the Quit button, SF closes but the Launcher goes kind of gray and stops responding and won?t close. The only way to close it is by using the Windows Task Master box and clicking ?end program?.

I?ve tried uninstalling the program, deleting the launcher files, all pref files, all preview files, and then re-installing and I get the same lack of response when closing the launcher.

Thank you in advance,

Ken

Try this: get a copy of Norton Utils (or equivalent) and run the windows diagnostic. Sounds like a registry problem. Use the "let me decide " option for any repairs.

BACK UP YOUR SYSTEM FIRST ! or at least the registry.

Thanks. I've already done that and there was no change.

It's Perplexing.

If the launcher were using twain, i would say delete all of the twain files.

Do you get the same behavior when using the plugin in PS ?
If so, you might have a hardware problem. or a video driver conflict.

Can you try an older/newer version of the launcher ?

I've deleted all the SF files I could find and they are in three directories; Application Data\Lasersoft, Programs\Lasersoft\ & PS Plugin\import\Silverfast. Then I re-installed SF & I get the same response. I don't seem to have any other conflicts going on in my system, which is loaded with many other heavy use programs.

It's a real mystery. Martin in SF tech says that there are no registry keys that be causing this.

???
