Job Manager and Copying settings

Postby Joerg » Fri May 20, 2005 5:43 pm

I am using Silverfast HDR 6.4.1r4b (Windows). When I tried to copy some settings from one job entry to others it didn't work as it was described in the pdf file. I want to change the filter from 'none' to 'GANE'. Doing it for one job entry works slow but fine, adding then others to the selection, using the 'copy' button, choosing 'Filters' from the dialog gives no change to the added entries. Only the original entry is changed.

Anything to work around this?

Thanks for hints!
Joerg

Dear Joerg

you would need to

(1) select entry
(2) enter edit mode
(3) change filter to GANE
(4) leave edit mode to save the new settings
(5) enter edit mode
(6) mark the other job list entries which this setting shall be copied to
(7) click the copy button
(8) leave edit mode

Though this is a bit awkward, it must work at least.

Dear Sonny,

Thanks for your reply! I followed the steps you described and it seems only to work in one way (removing filters). Taking two entries with no filters changing the first one to filter GANE, then leaving edit mode, reentering edit mode, marking the other one, clicking on the copy button - no change to the second entry.

If I do it with two entries that already have 'GANE', remove it from one and then add the other it works. Then both have no filters anymore.

Yet it doesn't work on setting filters.

All the best
Joerg

Dear Joerg,

I just tried it and it does work for me.
Not every step Sonny has mentioned is really necessary. It should work the following way:

(1) select one job entry
(2) enter edit mode
(3) change filter to GANE
(4) click the Save button (the Process button turns to Save in JM edit mode)
(5) mark the other job entries which this setting should be copied to
(6) click the copy button
(7) select "Filter" in the copy parameters dialog
(8) click OK

Using this procedure I was able to change the filter of every job entry from whatever it was to GANE without any problem.

Best regards
Ralf

Dear Ralf,

Thanks for your reply! I tried to follow the steps you described but there are two points where my JM differs from your description:
In (4) I don't have a 'Save' button - I can press the edit button again and then I'm asked if I want to save the changes. I am not sure if you mean a different button with the 'Process button'. Since I use a German version, the labels might be different.

In (6) the copy button is grey and can't be activated.

I just tried it again and looked deeper into it. And found that I can use the method Sonny described AS LONG as I am in 48->24 bit mode. When I am in 48 bit mode (what I normally use) it doesn't work.

So it seems to depend on the mode.

Best regards
Joerg

Dear Joerg,

well, you DO have a 'Save' button, but you won't find it in the JobManager window, but in the main settings window (where you choose the filter type). As I said, the 'Process' button (in german 'Bearbeiten') turns into a 'Save' button (in german 'Speichern') while in JM edit mode.
For me it worked in 48 bit mode, too (in will not work in 48 bit HDR mode, however, but this is intended).

Regards
Ralf

Dear Ralf,

Thanks again. I found the Save button in the main window.

Could you point me to why it doesn't work in 48 bit HDR mode (that's what I am working in). I would regard it as a useful tool there too.

Best regards
Joerg

Dear Joerg,

the HDR modes are considered to contain NO corrections; you get the plain scan data preserved so that all image manipulations can take place afterwards e.g. with SilverFast HDR as if you still had access to the original image on the scanner.
See https://www.silverfast.com/show/silverfast-hdr/en.html

If you want corrections to be applied to your image (e.g. filters) you have to choose 48 bit mode (without HDR in its name).

Best regards
Ralf

Dear Ralf,

Thanks for the clarification! I actually misunderstood the term 48bit HDR and thought you mean working in HDR (instead of the scanner version of SilverFast) in 48bit mode.

So I am working in simple 48 bit color mode in HDR and NOT in 48bit HDR.

I tried it again and still can't copy the filter. Copying gradation is no problem following your description, copying filter works only with removing filters, not with changing them to GANE for example.

This is on Windows and the behavior could be different on a Mac.

Best regards
Joerg

Dear Joerg,

well, I did try the Windows version and I just tried the latest version you can download (641r8c), and it does work, too.
Please ensure, that when performing step 5 of my instructions you do not accidentally change the current item from which the copying will be done; the current item is the one with the blue border around it.

Best regards
Ralf

Dear Ralf,

Thanks for the reply! I downloaded the newest version and I still get the same behavior. Following your instructions I can copy settings but not the filters. Since everything else works I am sure I followed your instructions correctly.

Meanwhile I found a workaround. Since I lost my filter settings in the job manager when I switch the color profiles, I am just working on one batch of images with one color profile and then on the other images where I don't apply a color profile (since the dark areas are posterized). So I don't need to copy the filter settings.

Thanks for your replies and maybe it's just my system.

With kind regards
Joerg
