Version 6.1.0r3 of Ai still has problems showing the correct calibration status. The button should be colored to show it is calibrated (or actually that CMS is properly activated), but in several situations this does not happen or it goes grey.
Examples using Mac OS X 10.2.6 with SF Launcher while connected to an ArtixScan 4000tf over firewire:
(1) If it is properly calibrated with an IT8 using the slide holder, and I then change to the film strip holder, then the IT8 calibration button turns grey, i.e showing that calibration is off, despite the CMS tab under Options still shows that there is an Input profile selected (the one created and named by me) while Internal profile remains Adobe (1998) and CMS Input->Internal and Internal->Monitor remain ColorSync and Internal->Output is RGB, precisely as it was with the slide holder.
(2) If first turning all CMS off (setting none everywhere, as recommended by an Ian Lyon tutorial), and then carry out the calibration, it will first issue a warning that there is no internal profile (which should not matter at this stage) and then the IT8 calibration proceeds. At the end of this procedure, the IT8 calibration button is still grey since CMS still is off. However, it should become colored if I go to the CMS tab and turn everything on as it should and select the profile that was just exported, but the IT8 button refuses to be colored! It is ONLY possible to get it colored if CMS is turned on BEFORE IT8 calibration is carried out!
However, tests indicate that CMS profile translations really are in effect, so it seems that the bug is "only" that the IT8 button shows the wrong status?
Comments? Solutions?
