IT 8 Question

Postby garyritson » Thu Feb 24, 2011 12:22 pm

Dear Sir / Madam,
I am contemplating upgrading to SilverFast Archive Suite and I'm just trying to find out a bit more information before I do. I have a number of questions regarding IT8 Targets.

Do I need to buy Calibration targets for every different type of Transparency I have?

or is the NegaFix function enough?

Do I need to have a Calibration Target for the type of scanner I have? (Plustek 7600i)

What is the difference between a batch measured calibration target and a hand measured target?

Any help on clrification of the above points for a beginner would be great,
Thanks
Gary

No, only Kodachrome requires a special target.
All other slides can use the calibratin from one of the Fuji or Kodak transparency targets.

NegaFix is only used for negative transformation.
This has no connection to positive slide calibration.

No

The hand measured target is even more precise than our normal targets.

kind regards,

Dear Sir/madam,
I am writing with regard to my last question which an answer hasn't yet been posted. I realise now as it may have seemed a rather strange question regarding other types of transparency film, but it's from coming from someone who is a complete beginner at scanning and imaging.

I am guessing there aren't that many types of transparency film!!!!!

My question was with regard to IT8 Targets. I asked if I need targets for other film types such as agfa or any other types of transparency film but I am to believe that either kodak or fuji would do. If this is so, how does that work?

I now also understand the difference between batch and hand made targets. For what I need to do I guess the batch targets would suffice.

I understand you can buy the targets through your shop, but what is this page

http://www.silverfast.com/it8calibration/en.html

the reference data and how (if I need to) do I use it?

Again any help in clarification of the points above would be greatly appreciated then I'd be more inclined to buy the complete Archive Suite understanding that it would suit all of my needs.

Thanks
Gary

The normal IT8 calibration is not film specific.
The IT8 calibration is to measure the scanner's color-space.
Only Kodachrome targets are specially made for the Kodachrome film and scan mode to remove the blue color cast.

The reference data is used by the calibration process to determine the colors a target should have.
If a reference file for a certain target is missing from an installation and can not be downloaded automatically by the calibration process it can be downloaded on that page.
