file number sequence

Postby foz » Mon Aug 04, 2008 9:29 pm

I can't figure out how to resolve this issue. I'm scanning thousands of slides and when I first start up Silverfast-SE Plustek Version 6.5 0.6 The first scan will save with the file name untitled -1. jpg, and then then the next one untitled-2 etc. Then when I restart it will start saving back at 1 again and I want it to continue the file numbering sequence. Is there a way to have it start at for instance, untitled-123 and continue from there? I've searched this forum, and tried all the menu options but can't seem to get it to start at anything other then untitled-1when I restart

Thanks Gary

Dear Gary,

you can start numbering the scans at any value.
In batch mode click on scan and remove the check mark for "Use image number instead of sequence number".
Then remove the check mark for "Reset for every batch scan".
Now you only need to enter the start number of your scan.

Thank you for your fast reply Arne. Under modes I only have "Basic" and "Standard" is Batch Mode setting hidden somewhere else or does the version I'm using not have it? (Silverfast SE version 6.5 0r6)

Thanks Gary

Ok, I'm starting to feel real stupid here. I upgraded to 6.6 and rebooted but the software still says version 6.5 OR 6.

Under the General tab.....Scan Mode: I only have the one choice available..."Normal (File)" ... and yes I did drop the menu down. There is only the one choice. Under that there is a Pos/Neg selection, There isn't anything else on the General Tab.

Dear Gary,

I overlooked that you are using Plustek SilverFast SE. This does currently not have the batch scan option implemented.
This will change with our next upgrade 6.6.0r2 which will enable the batch option for Plustek-SE.
Sorry about the misunderstanding. I hope you can wait until the new update is released in the near future.

kind regards

Arne, I know that this is an old thread, but I'm a new user and having this difficulty.

Now I've got time to scan my 15,000 slides, but my old Nikon Coolscan V ED failed when I switched it on not having been used for a few years. When I first bought it I spent some time leaning to use it. Now I have to learn a new program! SF appears to be a better program than that supplied with the Nikon.

SilverFast - SE Plus 6.6.1r5 came with my new Plustek 7600i SE.

While doing my first tests, I thought that the second scan automatically incremented the file name number. But I was wrong.

As I cant use batch mode as I don't have a flatbed scanner, is there another way to increment the file name number?

Going into batch mode I find that the options are the same as normal mode.

Any suggestions.

I've also got Photoshop V-7.0. Would I gain any advantages using that with SF for scanning my old slides?

Dear Reg,

The Plustek Scanner does not have a batch capability as it is a single frame scanner.

Guten Tag,

Thanks for your reply.

I installed PS 7, which I've not used since changing computer, then discovered that I had to remove SF and re-install. Now have them working together.

However, I find that using them is very time wasting, requiring so many mouse clicks and key pressing, for repetitive action.

Are there plans to improve this within SF, including incrementing the file name number automatically?

Not the usual German efficiency I would expect!

Viele Grüße,

Reg

No auto numbering is only available for batch processing.
It is currently not planned to implement this.
But I will forward your request to our product management.

The general workflow will be greatly enhanced in our next major release.

kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

I strongly request the same feature. When scanning multiple pages of printed material, it is a huge pain
to have to rename each file before scanning the next.

Thank you,

Arne,

I have read the previoud threads after I upgraded to SF 8. I too have 20,000+ slides to scan. I like the iSDR and the KodaChrome rebalancing. However, I must agree with others the lack of sequencing numbers during batch scanning is a major impediment to basic workflow. Even the Epson Scanner software provides the ability. As these posts seem to begin in 2007, will there be an update in the very near future to provide this feature?

Is there a rough date this can be expected? Is there any way to get a beta copy when it's available? While I'm baffled as to the business decision to remove such a heavily relied on feature, I'm more concerned with when I can get back to work on this project. While I was ahead by a few hundred scans, I've now fallen behind by a few thousand scans and could use this feature as soon as possible. Any chance their is an answer to either of my 2 questions?

Thanks again for being receptive to user input,
-Bill
