Extremely small window elements on 4k monitor
I have an Eizo EV3237 4k monitor, Windows 8.1 x64 and Silverfast 8.5.0r7. All the Silverfast menus and text and fields in dialogs and toolbars are extremely small and difficult to read (see attached screen shot from the Preferences dialog as an example). Other applications show their menus and dialogs at a comfortable size (if you look at the titlebar of the dialog, that is approximately the size that I want and get in other applications for menus and text), but Silverfast seems to ignore the display settings set through Control Panel in Windows.

Same problem here. I Also have a 4K monitor and the program is barely useable. Any news on when this would be resolved?

Re: Extremely small window elements on 4k monitor
I am having the same problem with the small menus. I see the problem was posted about 4 months ago and there has been no solution to the problem.
Is anyone in support working on a solution to the problem.
I am using windows 10 at 2560x 1600 resolution on a 31 inch hp monitor. All my other programs have normal size icons and lettering.
Please advise.
Thank you, Bob.

Re: Extremely small window elements on 4k monitor
Dear customer,
This issue has been solved in our latest update.
SilverFast now uses the Windows Settings' app enlargement value for the size of fonts, apps and other elements.
Kind regards,
Arne

Re: Extremely small window elements on 4k monitor
Hello.
Now with the newest Update of SilverFast 8.8.0r8 there are extremely small window elements again. The previous version (8.8.0r7) did not have these problems.
Will this be fixed again?

Re: Extremely small window elements on 4k monitor
Dear user,
No actually this has been fixed in 8.8.0r8. In version 8.8.0r7 it was not using the size adjustment form the operating system correctly.
It now is using the exact % value from the Size adjustment for text, apps, and other elements from the Windows Display settings.
Kind regards,
Arne

Re: Extremely small window elements on 4k monitor
Ok, I have to correct myself ...
Parts of the program are enlarged. However, the menu bar (font size), which, in my opinion, is one of the most important control elements of a program, is no longer enlarged.
In order to understand the problem better, I added 2 screenshots.
The first screenshot shows how Silverfast behaves at 100% UI scaling. The second, with a UI scaling of 150%.
As can be seen, the text of the menus in Silverfast and other fonts do not scale. To make the problem even more apparent, I have opened IrfanView additionally. There, the font scales flawlessly.
Resetting the software and deleting the scanner specific preferences did not help.
Is this a problem, which is on my side to search, or is it a general problem?

Re: Extremely small window elements on 4k monitor
Have you checked that your graphics drivers and system are fully updated?
I just checked again with our 4k testing system and could not reproduce this. The menu bar was scaled together with the other elements.
Have you checked if other application windows show a similar behaviour? The menu bar is generated more directly by the operating system then the other window elements. So it is kind of strange that it does not scale but other elements do.
Do you have any software installed which changes the way the Windows user interface behaves?
Maybe special software from the graphics card manufacturer or the computer manufacturer.
Kind regards,
Arne

Yes.

I don't use 4K Monitor. I use the Dell U2711 with 150% UI-scale (Windows 10 64 Bit). But that does not matter, does it?
Yes. As you can see in the Screenshot, there is IrfanView that scales in the way it is meant.LSI_Ketelhohn wrote:Have you checked if other application windows show a similar behaviour?
And as I mentioned before, the Silverfast software before the update also scaled flawlessly. I was able to test it twice, with Silverfast AI and Silverfast HDR. Both changed their behavior after the update.

Yes... I also tried to change only the text size of menus with the corresponding option in the Windows system control. IrfanView worked well, but Silverfast did not.

I'm pretty sure this is not the case.

Re: Extremely small window elements on 4k monitor
Dear customer,
We are currently trying to find a testing system where we can reproduce this issue.
We however only have one other case like this until now.
Can you please tell me which resolution your screen is using.
Kind regards,
Arne

Re: Extremely small window elements on 4k monitor
Thanks for the efforts.
It uses the native resolution of 2560*1440 pixels.

Re: Extremely small window elements on 4k monitor
Thank you for your feedback.
I will check if I can test the pixel ratio on one of our systems.
I also took a look at your log file (just did not post it here in the forum).
The pixel ratio of 1 is correct and the update valid information relates to available updates.
Kind regards,
Arne

Re: Extremely small window elements on 4k monitor
Recently, Microsoft released a new final version (version 1703) of Windows. A new feature to scale size is also there. The font size of the menus in Silverfast 8 can now be scaled quite well with "System (Advanced)".
With "System (Advanced)" the menu items do not look as blurry as with "System". However, system-side scaling is not a substitute for native support for scaling from the application. The correct support for the corresponding menu size was possible in Silverfast 8.8.0r7. This is obviously an unsupported feature in version 8.8.0r8. At least this is the case on the Windows system I use.
