Colour shifting problem after scanning

Postby mr.salvataggio » Wed May 13, 2009 8:07 pm

Hi Guys,

I've just purchased Silverfast AI for my Canon 8600 scanner, I'm doing 6x6 scans with it. I've carefully read through the manual and made the necessary settings.
But I've encountered several problems I cannot fix:
- After having made all the adjusments (curves, histograms, colours etc.) in Silverfast I start the scanning. After the scanning the tiff file is being opened in Photoshop CS4 and with totally different colours and tones. I don't know the reason. I use silverfast in RGB and the colour space in photoshop is Adobe RGB. What setting should i change? And I've recognized that at different dpi-s there are different colour shifts with the same picture.....
- I've recognized that at 1200 dpi my scans are quite noisy and not so detailed, but at 9600 dpi it's okay. But it's a huge time to scan with it. Is it any other better way?

Thanks in advance for your time to reply.

Dear mr Salvataggio,

Please make sure you are using the same color-space in SilverFast and Photoshop.
Yes you are right a higher scan resolution offers more detail, but this naturally takes longer as the scanner-sensor has to move slower across the image.
Please make sure you select a resolution fitting your film resolution.
A standard positive for example seldom offers a resolution above 4000dpi.

kind regards
