Challenge

OK,

I have a photo that I have been trying to scan in so that I may crop it to focus on the main subjects.

My challenge has been that the photo has the old style screen finish on it that prevents finger prints, and it has faded resulting in little (for the most part) red dots throughout the photo. The dots are moderately visible on the original, but they become very prominent when the photo is scanned.

When I use selective color correction and de-saturate it merely introduces flaws of another color.

Any tips on dealing with this?

tried GANE and/or SRD for the removal of these image defects?

I did try SRD, but I have not tried GAIN. I will give that a try and see if it helps.

Since my original posting I used PhotoShop Color Channels to remove the image defects, but doing so removed much of the original color data.

Try scanning one channel at a time and rebuilding the image from the layers. You should be able to do a significant amount of correction in each channel and then add/merge the results together.

I gave GAIN a try and it does not help. I also tried using ACR and Global Colour Correction.
