Re: black image result
Dear balding,
Please make sure you are not scanning B/W images with a silver halide emulsion.
These can not be corrected using infrared.
Also slide with glassed frames can reflect the infrared channel causing a similar effect.
Completely black images can also be a sign of a hardware defect.
kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Re: black image result
scanning of color negatives (C-41 development process) showed the same problem.
sometimes it works but most of the time not.
process is the following: it shows scanning D.ICE then IR D.ICE then D.ICE then starts RGB scanning and suddenly stops and throw out a black image.
scanning without Digital ICE is always ok.
deleting the folder "prefs" in application data helps once and then the problem appeared again.
If it is hardware defect how can I test it?

Re: black image result
Dear balding,
Did you already install the latest drivers from the manufacturer webpage?
And the latest SilverFast update?
Also please check the connection of your scanner in case this is a communication problem.
Try using a different cable/port.
Also make sure you are not connecting through a hub, cable extension or USB 1.1 port.
In case of firewire do not use a cascade.
If this does not help you I will forward you to our support system .
kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Re: black image result
I've updated windows, epson driver, Silverfast.
the problem still exists, but now result is sometimes completely black, sometimes - completely white image.
I use USB 2.0 (no hub). I'll try to reinstall everything and change the port, and will report a result.
Thank you & Kind regards
Balding

Re: black image result
Hi,
I too am having a similar problem with a Minolta 5400 II connected via USB2. No matter what settings i choose, all i get is a black image or white image depending if i choose negative or positive scan. I have tried swapping USB cables, all mechanics sound ok, and i see the scan light on, but i can never produce a scan with photo pixel information - just blank. Adjusting exposure level does nothing. I have also tried this on multiple computers with no luck.
Please help.

Re: black image result
Dear customer,
Please test the scanner with another program ( e.g. the operating systems own tools).
This way you can check if your issue is hardware related or caused by a setting.
Setting related issues can be solved byresetting SilverFast trough the Service Dialog.
kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Re: black image result
Thanks for the advice. Yes, i have already tried 3 scanner software options - Silverfast, Dimage Scan, & Veuscan. All produce the same result - a blank scan. Have you heard of any similar problem with this scanner? I dont know where else to turn for answers because Minolta is no longer.
