B&W scan output files are a garbaged mess

Postby DavidJones » Tue Aug 02, 2016 3:07 am

I’ve been scanning 35mm slides for months with no problems. It did the multiple exposure and iSRD just fine. However when I went to scan B&W negatives it scanned and produced an output file without multiple exposure and iSRD. I then clicked ME and it did the multiple exposure but still no iSRD. I clicked iSRD and set the mode to automatic (Mark mode and the processing never finishes – Original mode is the same) and it does an infrared scan but the output file is garbage. Also when I scanned slides the processing took seconds. Now the processing takes over 2 minutes with garbage for output. What can be done to get it to scan B&W negatives?

Software: SilverFast Version 8.8.0r5
Scanner: Plustek OpticFilm 8200i
Film: Tri-X - NegaFix: Kodak – Tri-X – ISO 400
Output file format: Photoshop PSD

Dear user,

B&W film unfortunately can not be corrected using infrared scanning. the silver halide emulsion blocks the infrared beam. You can switch to the software based SRDx instead.

Kind regards,
Arne

Thanks Arne. - Does this this mean color negative film can't use infrared as well?

No color negative film is not effected by this. Unless it is an unusually dense emulsion or if there was an error during development (like the film not being washed correctly).
