Captcha in forum registration

Postby drm » Tue Apr 01, 2008 7:49 pm

Hi guys,

You really need to change your CAPTCHA in the forum registration. It is almost impossible to read. I failed in 5 attempts. I'm not sure you need a Captcha anyway - confirmation should be enough (and am running a forum myself, so I speak from some experience)

Also, I was trying to create a new account because I could not remember my user name - surely the email address is enough for password retrieval ? Making user name mandatory is a little over the top. It's not a bank, after all.

You may be losing a lot of users & goodwill through these usability issues - and they're easy enough to fix.

Best wishes

David Mantripp

Can't register

Postby Guntis » Tue May 27, 2008 6:44 pm

Why do you use so utterly bad captcha images in your forum registration form? -- no information given should I use only small letters or capitals as well. I couldn't type them right even trying five times! Other forums at least give audio preview if user can't discern those hieroglyphs. After trying unsuccessfully five times I was blocked to register. Then I had to start new session, and again it took 4 attempts before I had a luck to type correct answer. Thank you for such "wonderful" support...[/img]
PC is consumer stuff for me. Like a coffee machine — it does it’s job. But Mac — Mac is love, it’s like a Porsche — style, design and feeling of well spent money.

The captcha code is now 4 instead of 6 letters and no more case sensitive.
I hope this should work better and blocks spam bots anyway.

Thank you! At least new members will hopefully have easier registration. I had nine attempts to guess captcha correctly...
