Congratulations to LaserSoft for finally producing a Universal version of SilverFast for Intel Macs. I have a Nikon Super Coolscan 5000. I have the same problem with the new version of the software that I did with previous versions. The software CONSTANTLY hangs up toward the end of a scan. This problem is so persistent that I have to keep the Mac Force Quit dialog box open while using the software so that I can quit the program and restart all over again. Is there a solution to this problem? Any help would be most appreciated.
Thank you,
Sfoster

sfoster, there seems to be a misunderstanding.
LaserSoft never stated that SilverFast is a UB app. It's the Launcher which is universal now. And indeed it takes it 5 less seconds to pop up when you start the standalone application which is a great achievment.
The program itself still runs under Rosetta. Just take a look at Activity Monitor when SF is running:
Naming a PPC app "SilverFast Universal" can be attributed to the LS team's sense of humor.
Not exactly the type of humor I prefere, though.

Tygger,
Thanks for the clarification. Who cares about Silverfast Universal Launcher? Frankly, I wish the launcher would just disappear once and for all and not get in my way everytime I open the program or quit it. It is not a useful software component. It is an annoyance. I feel like I've been hoodwinked. Why a universal launcher with an actual program that still runs (and crashes constantly, consistently and predictably every time you use the thing)? Recommendation to the developers -- get real Mac developers to produce the Mac versions instead of doing them as an afterthought to the Windows versions. Or at least realize that when one wants to quit a program it should be one simple command, not a multistep process.
